Frequently Ask Questions –
1) My son holds P.I.O. card. Does he require to register ?
Ans. Minor (Below 16 years) are exempted from Registration provided they hold valid P.I.O. card / Indian visa.
2) I arrived India on ‘X’ (Entry visa), Now I intend to take up job. Can my visa change to ‘Employment’?
Ans. No, Change of visa type is not permitted. You may go back to your home country and re-enter on fresh ‘Employment’ visa.
3) I hold ‘Business visa’ of 3 months, Can I get extension?
Ans. No, If, you are not registree of this office and hold visa for less than 6 months, your case can not be processed by this office.
4) I am registered on ‘Employment’ visa. Now, I want to change my original company. Can I change it ?
Ans. No, Change of employer is not allowed. You will have to go back to your home country and re-enter on fresh visa with changed employer.
5) My case has been referred to Government of India for further extension on ‘Employment/Business’ visa, How much time it would take?
Ans. In such cases usually a 3 months Multiple Entry Visa is given during the processing period to Government of India. However, after that period has expired an endorsement to that effect that the case is under consideration with Government of India is given and in mean time if you want to travel a ‘Return Visa’ facility is given to allow to depart and come back.
6) I am on a ‘Tourist/Entry/Student’ visa, Can I apply for a Work Permit?
Ans. There is no such thing as ‘Work Permit’. However, there are different types of visas for different categories. To work in India, you need to be on an ‘Employment’ visa.
7) Can I make my payments of Visa fees by Credit card?
Ans. No, the visa fees are prescribed in US dollars to be paid after converting it to equivalent in Indian Rupees
cash as per the prevailing rate of exchange on that day which would be available with the cashier at the F.R.R.O., Mumbai office.
8) Do we have a Drop Box Facility for Visa extensions?
Ans. There is no drop box facility; the applicant has to come personally to process his/her case.
9) I am on ‘Tourist’ visa, can I get extension on my visa?
Ans.
No, FRRO, Mumbai office is not empower to grant extension on ‘Tourist’
visa (Not even for Indian origin)
10) I am an old registree of your office holding 5 years long term
visa, Can I get further 5 years extension at a stretch?
Ans. As per Govt. of India’s new guidelines ‘Residential Permit’ can
be extended on yearly basis.
